HeartMath biofeedback gaming — nature-inspired environments driven by heart rate variability
HeartMath had scientifically validated biofeedback technology for stress management and heart rate variability training, but their existing software felt clinical and lacked engagement. They needed interactive experiences that could make the science of heart coherence accessible and compelling to a mainstream audience — without compromising the therapeutic integrity of the biofeedback data.
Designed and directed a suite of interactive gaming experiences that translated HeartMath's biofeedback signals into engaging gameplay mechanics. Each game used real-time heart rate variability data to control game elements — creating a direct feedback loop between the user's physiological state and their in-game progress. The visual design emphasized calming, nature-inspired environments that reinforced the wellness objectives.
The gaming experiences reached 300K+ customers globally, significantly expanding HeartMath's market beyond clinical practitioners to mainstream wellness consumers. The products demonstrated that biofeedback technology could be both therapeutically effective and genuinely engaging, opening new distribution channels including consumer retail and corporate wellness programs.
