QUEST gamified learning platform — mountain trail progression, team leaderboards, admin dashboard, and cross-community engagement
Remote and underserved First Nation communities faced significant barriers to accessing quality education and job readiness programs. Existing learning management systems were designed for urban, institutional contexts and failed to account for the cultural, geographical, and connectivity challenges of distributed Indigenous communities. There was a need for a platform that could deliver engaging, culturally responsive education across geographically separated groups.
Designed QUEST as an experiential, gamified learning management system built specifically for cross-community group education. The platform featured a mountain-trail progression system where learners advance through numbered checkpoints, team-based collaboration with leaderboards and badges, live events and synchronous learning sessions, and an admin dashboard for facilitators to manage courses, track participation, and schedule activities. The gamification layer — including points, stars, high-fives, and team challenges — was designed to drive engagement and completion rates in populations that traditional LMS platforms fail to retain.
Successfully deployed across 5 remote First Nation communities, supporting adult learners in preparation for job readiness and community-based employment pathways. The platform demonstrated that gamified, play-driven education could meaningfully improve engagement and completion rates in underserved populations, creating a replicable model for cross-community learning.
