CaptureSpace: AR museum experience, Augmented Alley collection game, artifact scanning, and interactive exhibits
Museums and heritage sites were struggling to engage younger, digitally-native visitors with traditional exhibit formats. Existing AR solutions were either too expensive for cultural institutions' budgets or too generic to handle the unique requirements of museum environments — variable lighting, diverse artifact types, and the need for educational depth alongside entertainment value.
Built CaptureSpace as a purpose-built AR platform for the cultural sector. The system allowed museum staff to create AR experiences around their exhibits without requiring technical expertise. Developed proprietary object recognition that worked reliably in museum lighting conditions, and designed an experience framework that balanced educational content with interactive engagement. Partnered directly with institutions like Ingenium and Science North to co-develop experiences.
Deployed at major Canadian institutions including Ingenium (Canada's National Museums) and Science North, reaching 650K+ visitors. The platform proved that AR could enhance the museum experience without replacing the physical artifacts — creating a new layer of engagement that increased visitor dwell time and educational outcomes.
